How should you write a construction diary? Classically by hand or digitally via app?
The construction site diary is usually kept by the site manager, i.e. an architect, engineer or contractor. Here either templates are used, which can be ordered in bookstores, or digital software solutions. The construction diary does not necessarily have to be written digitally. On smaller construction sites, handwritten notes can be used as long as they are complete in terms of content and "reliably and conclusively record the construction process with all the essential details".What are these "essential construction details"?
Put simply, it is about the question of what was going on on the construction site on the current day. The following content is considered important for documentation of essential details of the construction process:- Date, time and duration of the inspection
- Weather, temperature and precipitation
- Construction progress information
- Comparison with the planned processes (target / actual comparison)
- If the construction process is not on schedule, the delays will be documented
- Companies and their workforce on the construction site
- Present engineers, planners, inspectors
- Information on equipment and machines used
- Material deliveries with information about the delivery and storage locations of the materials
- Defects, damages or deviations from the norm
- Photos of all changes from the last site documentation
- Photos of the areas that are no longer visible at a later date, such as electrical installations, pipes, etc.
- Instructions of the site manager
- Agreements on additional orders
- Price reductions due to defects
- Plans handed over on site, updates of plans
- Material specifications, samples
